If Kepie is going to tell you what dinner costs, the numbers need to stack up.
So this is exactly where our prices come from, what we do with them, and where the limits are.
No mystery maths.
We use the online prices published by PAK'nSAVE, Woolworths and New World.
We collect each banner's listed prices and match them to the right products before they reach Kepie.
We don't guess missing prices.
We don't average them.
And if we can't get a reliable price for something, we'd rather leave it blank than make one up.
These are banner prices, not individual store prices.
Prices can vary a little between stores, so what you see in store may sometimes be different. The date we last checked the price is shown in Kepie.
Supermarket prices move all the time, especially specials. We check the supermarkets' online prices every week and use those prices for the week you're planning. A price can still change between our check and your shop. The checkout gets the final say.
The main price Kepie shows is the current pay price. That means the price you'd be charged online when we checked it. If we show a saving, it's the difference between the regular price and the current price. If the saving is $0, the price hasn't dropped from its regular level. Nothing more exciting than that.
A $5 pack isn't necessarily cheaper than a $6 pack if one is half the size.
So when pack sizes differ, we compare them on the same basis.

And when Kepie compares the cost of your week across supermarkets, it's always the same dinners being priced.
Same food. Same week. Fair comparison.
A dinner's cost is based on the ingredients it uses and how many people it serves.
Your weekly total is the cost of the dinners you picked, scaled to the number of people you're feeding.
If a recipe only needs part of a pack, we still count the pack you actually have to buy.
What's left can carry into another dinner or another week.
Because buying a whole bunch of coriander for six leaves is a fairly rubbish system.
Kepie is built for the person buying the groceries.
Not the person selling them.
We don't take a cut from any supermarket, and nobody can pay us to make their prices look better.
If PAK'nSAVE is cheaper for your week, we'll tell you.
If Woolworths is cheaper, we'll tell you.
If New World is cheaper, we'll tell you.
We're not trying to pick a winner.
We're trying to show you the numbers.
